Special Education

At Vernon Elementary, we believe all kids can succeed! As part of our commitment to help all of our students reach their potential, we offer a top-notch special education program in all grades to identify, diagnose, and serve those students with special educational needs, disabilities, and/or giftedness.

    Child Find

The intent of Child Find is to identify children who display developmental and educational delays or disabilities and to ensure they receive the support and services needed to thrive. When children are "found," we refer them to specialists for screening. This screening helps identify areas of need and provides us with the data necessary to provide intervention, special education, and/or support services through our school.

    Resource

Our special education program works with classroom teachers to be resources for students who need additional support and academic tutoring. Special education students spend the majority of their school day in the general education classroom with their peers. They come to the resource room for no more than 40 to 60 minutes a day; however, the resource room is always available for students who need a quiet place to read or complete their assignments.

    Title I

Special Education works closely with Title I to improve reading and math achievement for students at Vernon Elementary. We receive federal funding to ensure every student receives the tools and support they need to master reading and math skills. We spend these funds on curriculum alignment, hiring qualified teachers, and improving our progress monitoring and accountability.
